Pat Cummins poses with the ICC World Cup trophy. — ICCAustralian captain Pat Cummins touched down in Sydney after leading his team to the ICC World Cup 2023 glory after beating the home team, India, in a one-sided manner in the final in Ahmedabad on November 19.The mighty Aussies clinched their record-extending sixth World Cup, at-least four more than West Indies and India who have two titles each in their trophy cabinet.

Cummins, along with Josh Hazlewood, landed in Sydney on Wednesday and the 30-year-old couldn’t stop smiling throughout his talk with the reporters."Every half an hour or so, you kind of remember that we just won the World Cup and get excited all over again," Cummins told reporters at the airport."So we're still buzzing, it's been an awesome couple of days and I think we'll be smiling for a fair while."I think they have created their own legacy."Cummins stated that winning the World Cup isn’t an ordinary feat as this is a title that you only get a shot at once every four years."I mean, a World Cup, you only get one chance every four years and especially playing someone like India, it's hard,” he added."So to be put up against the rest of the world and come away with a medal, that's -- it doesn't get any better than that."The World Cup-winning captain also said that the squad never lost hope and kept on believing in themselves despite a rough start that saw them losing two consecutive matches against India and South Africa, that too by big margins."You look back on now that we've won and you think: 'Wow, everything came together,'" he added."But the belief never left, even at the start. We knew we hadn't played our best but kind of knew once we clicked we could take on anyone and it proved to be the case."It must be noted that some of Australia’s players returned home but seven players from that World Cup-winning squad are still in India to participate in the T20I series against the finalists of the World Cup.
